Battle of the Books is part of a library system-wide effort to promote the library arts and self-confidence for young adults by allowing them to develop literacy, comprehension, and critical thinking skills while supporting many of the Search Institute's 40 developmental assets for adolescents, especially the constructive use of time, reading for pleasure, planning and decision making, cultural competence and personal power.

Teens will read high-quality books chosen for event, will read books closely, using comprehension skills, will enjoy reading books and participating in the event, will check out the read-alike books from the list we provide for each of the selected books.
Measurable Outcome(s)
Teen responses to the program were overwhelmingly positive. Many enjoyed the challenge and chance to see what they remembered. Words used by teens to describe the event: "exciting," "great opportunity," "fun" and "awesome."
