Historian Arn Kind's Fur Trade Experience
Written surveys were distributed to all attendees. It was expected that a majority of respondents would indicate they learned something new about the fur trade, learned what it was like to live the life and do the job of the Voyageur, are interested in checking out library materials on the fur trade and would share a positive review of the program with others. In addition, library staff would observe a majority of attendees actively engaged in the program by listening attentively, asking questions, and participating in the hands-on activities. Anecdotal responses from attendees would confirm their enjoyment of the program.
There was an overwhelmingly positive response to Arn Kind's program. All survey respondents indicated they learned about the fur trade and the life of the Voyageurs, and they all stated they would share a positive review of the program with others. This was Arn Kind's second presentation at New Ulm Public Library, and it was another great success. Audience members actively participated by taking on the roles of Indians and traders, and we all climbed aboard a make-believe canoe and acted like the Voyageurs of the fur trade. Anecdotal responses included "Nicely presented, interesting." and "Wonderful presentation and participation style."
