Project Overview
The Minnesota Historical Society brought their History Player, Harriet Bishop, St Paul’s first public school teacher to the Parker Oaks Communities in Winnebago. For the past couple of years we have had a different History Player every February in the evening. We ran into trouble with the weather and road conditions, so we decided to try an afternoon program at the local nursing home/assisted living because many senior citizens have lunch and fellowship at Parker Oaks around midday. This program involved costume, artifacts and great oral storytelling. An Auxiliary meeting was schedule for this same time, but the ladies decided to come to our program first and have a short meeting after. This actually worked out in our favor because many more new people were introduced to the History Player.

Proposed Measurable Outcome(s)

We anticipated that the majority in attendance would learn something about Minnesota History,
enjoy the program and at least half of them would be interested in coming to another program like this.

Measurable Outcome(s)

This librarian observed interest and enjoyment on the audience’s faces. Good questions were asked during and after the program. Audience members enjoyed passing around the artifacts and telling stories about their own stitching samples and quilting and the schoolbooks used when they were in a one room school house.
Several people asked me when the next program will be. Nine surveys were returned.
9/9 answered YES – Did you enjoy coming to the program today?
9/9 answered YES – Did you learn something new?
