Project Overview
Author James Carl Nelson of Eden Prairie will discuss the research and writing of his military history books, "Five Lieutenants: The Heartbreaking Story of Five Harvard Men Who Led America to Victory in World War I' which was published in 2012, and "The Remains of Company D: A Story of the Great War' which was published in 2009, both by St. Martin's Press. Nelson received a journalism degree from the University of Minnesota and worked as a staff writer for the Miami Herald. This program has been scheduled the day before Veterans Day to tie in with other local commemorative events and to appeal to a broader audience.

Written surveys will be distributed to all attendees. It is expected that a majority of respondents will learn something about James Carl Nelson as a writer, learn something about WWI military history, express interest in checking out Nelson's books and/or military history materials and share a favorable review of this program with others. In addition, library staff will observe a majority of attendees actively engaged in the program by listening a attentively and asking questions. Anecdotal responses from attendees will confirm their enjoyment of the program.
