Project Overview
In December, kids created two distinct types of books: tunnel books and flag books. Both sessions allowed and encouraged students to explore three-dimensional design in bookmaking through paper engineering. The instructor for this event was Mr. Tom Spence, a youth programming instructor for Minnesota Center for Book Arts. Students were then encouraged to use imagination and creativity to aesthetically design the structure and compose an original story. After completion of respective projects, several students mentioned the books would be given as holiday gifts. In January, Children’s Play Theatre Company from Montgomery, MN led an Improv workshop. The workshop helped children learn creative thinking and imaginative skills using theatre arts and crafts as the primary vehicle. Instructor Andy Velishek enthusiastically led students in a myriad of improvisational acting exercises that inherently developed various movement and vocal techniques and fostered creative spontaneity.
