Project Overview
Dick Kimmel, The Ambassador of Bluegrass, presented a workshop that covered the history of traditional country music, how it developed into what we call bluegrass and old-time string band music, and some of the musicians who were influential in this genre (Bill Monroe, Lester Flatt, Earl Scruggs, The Stanley Brothers, and more.) Included in the workshop were demonstrations of the instruments used to play
bluegrass as well as audio drawn from actual recordings. At the Waseca event, the electricity went out in the middle of the event. Kimmel paused, then said, "Well, this IS an acoustic show," and continued playing. One person in the audience had a mini flashlight
and used it to shine on Kimmel. The event was still highly enjoyable. Dick Kimmel's son lan, proficient in bluegrass guitar and member of the band Barton's Hollow, joined Kimmel for the LeSueur event.
