Project Overview
Charlie Parr played heartfelt and plaintive original folk blues and traditional spirituals. Parr, who strives to sound like he's on Harry Smith's "Anthology of American Folk Music," is an Austin native who now lives in Duluth. His new album, Stumpjumper, released in April 2015. Charlie Parr played a selection of tunes from his new album and folk favorites. This concert was originally supposed to be held at the Montgomery school, but the school asked us to limit the event to 21 and older once they heard Parr sings songs about alcohol. Since we were not serving alcohol,we planned on holding it at the Library, but ultimately moved the concert to Memorial Park, which was a fantastic decision! This outdoor concert produced so many compliments and so much good will! People have continued to stop in at the Library to thank staff and have asked us to hold another concert next summer. We expected 40-50 people to attend. 130 turned up!
