Project Overview
The Blue Earth County Library System sponsored a Bookmark Contest for Blue Earth County children and adults. The theme of the contest was "My Hometown." Entrants were judged in six categories based on age. First, second and third place winners were determined by a panel of local artists, county officials and Library Board members. The first place bookmark from each category was printed and used by the Blue Earth County Library System as their official 2014 Bookmarks and are available to library patrons and the general public. A workshop was provided by the Twin Rivers Arts Center and local artists provided hands-on coaching on technique, composition, color and shading. The winners of the Bookmark Contest were acknowledged at a special reception where they received a participation certificate and gift card to Barnes & Noble bookstore.

Proposed Measurable Outcome(s)

8,000 entry forms were sent out to our regional school districts as well as additional forms being located in the libraries. There were 513 entries returned and judged by a 5 person panel. First, second and third place winners received a certificate and Barnes & Noble Gift card (contributed in-kind by the Blue Earth County Library System.) The first place winners also had their entry printed and the will be used as the official Blue Earth County Library bookmarks for 2014. The winning contestants were honored at an awards ceremony which was attended by 15 of the 18 winners and their families. The response from those who entered the contest and patrons who enjoy the bookmarks encouraged the library to continue this fun and creative activity.
