Project Overview
Following up on our first two years of sponsoring a community read in North Mankato, we have selected the book, "When the Emperor was Divine" by Julie Otsuka for our 3rd Annual event. This is a fictionalized account of the Japanese internment during WWII. The premise for our community read is not just that everyone reads the same book, but that participants learn something along the way. We plan to give away 500 copies of the book, many through our community business partners who will act as pick-up sites. Programs this year include a presentation by Sally Sudo from the Japanese American Citizen's League, a screening of the documentary "Time of Fear," and a book discussion led by Beth Christensen.
